Fireman’s Brand SPILLCLEAN^® pH Neutral Roadspill Cleanup Detergent
When the City of Milwaukee Fire Department came to us in 2003 asking for a pH neutral roadspill cleanup detergent, we invented one. How? We dissected the problem. Then we determine the City’s pain point of leaving slippery motor oil on roads after an accident. And we went to work.

Our chief chemist created a product we came to proudly call Fireman’s Brand Spillclean^®. When mixed with any petroleum spill like motor oil, gasolene, brake fluid, transmission fluid, antifreeze, our Fireman’s Brand Spillclean^® will completely separate it from the hard surface it occupies. The resulting emulsification process allows our detergent to surround each (oil) molecule, thus LIFTING it from the road. Then when this contaminant is hosed off with water, or wet vacuumed up, or shoveled up (when combined with our Fireman’s Brand Oil B-Dry^®), there is NO oil left behind. Why is this important? Because the City of Milwaukee did not want any slippery oil slick left behind on the road every time an accident occurred on city roads!

We are proud to report that this Fireman’s Brand Spillclean^® pH Neutral Roadspill Cleanup Detergent has been continuously registered with the United States Environmental Protection Agency as a “Surface Washing Agent” since 2009. And the only way a Surface Washing Agent is accepted on to the EPA website is to have it pass a highly rigorous set of tests performed by an EPA approved independent laboratory. This laboratory test for toxicity towards animal life around both fresh and saltwater conditions. Additionally, this regulated laboratory tests for efficacy in removing crude oil from hard surfaces.
Note: in July of 2025, Fireman’s Brand Spillclean^® pH Neutral Roadspill Cleanup Detergent passed the latest set of EPA requirements and has now been re-admitted to the EPA website going into 2026. See EPA website:

In 2021, the United States Department of the Interior completed a comprehensive three-year study on the efficacy of a Surface Washing Agent’s ability to remove crude oil from a hard surface. Each product selected from the United States Environmental Agency’s website for this study had to be in good standing as a surface washing agent. In this study, Fireman’s Brand Spillclean^® pH Neutral Roadspill Cleanup Detergent came out in the top TWO for effectively removing crude oil from cement and brick. It also came out in the top six for effectively removing crude oil from wood and sandstone.
